I have been attending private lessons at the LI for almost two
years and am not sure which is more rewarding: the feeling of
finally learning the language I have always dreamed of learning,
or the experiences I have gathered along the way! I had
absolutely no previous experiences with the French language but
am now able to actively participate in conversations on
wide-ranging topics with families i visit in France. This is
more than a great tribute to the professors at LI (who manage
to make the learning process fun) but also to the knowledge they
impart on cultural, political and interpersonal aspects of the
French people. I have greatly enjoyed my learning
experience...and will continue to do so until the French people
think I am one of them!"

"The Languages Institute took me from incredibly rusty high
school French, to actually conversing, conveying, and
understanding - ' En Français '. Each of the professor's I have
had, were not only native French speakers, but were also
extremely competent at teaching which helped me learn more about
the language and not just a few words to get me by'.
Activities from dinner in a French restaurant, a Beaujolais
nouveau reception, or a crepe making party, all conducted in French also
added to the fun.
would certainly recommend them!"

"Years of non-use had
reduced my French abilities greatly. The excellent teachers at
the LI provided motivating classes that helped me attain an
advanced conversational and reading level, which stood me well
in France recently. I am delighted to have found this
girlfriend speaks French fluently. After 1 year of
lessons with the LI, she was impressed, commenting, "Wow,
you've really learned a lot quickly! I was 2 years into
my studies before I was exposed to a lot of what

the last two years I have continually been impressed with the
level of professional instruction at the Languages
Institute. Their teaching methods have engaged and stimulated my
5 years old son. I am very grateful for the
Languages Institute for all it has done for my son and me. Not
only has my son been readily acquiring French, but he also loves
to come to the Institute for his lessons, enjoys checking-out
books from the local library, and benefits from the
instructional materials that are available at the Institute. As
for myself, I have always been given professional guidance that
helped me to invigorate my son’s learning experience at home.”

as a second language provides me with an opportunity to stimulate my
intellect and broaden my world-view.
I find the experience immensely rewarding and a lot of fun
too. This would not be
possible without the Languages Institute, which provides a
warm, friendly and inviting atmosphere for learning.
The knowledgeable staff are always helpful and encouraging
you on in your studies. I
couldn't be happier with my time here at the institute."

“When we moved from Montreal (Quebec,
Canada) to the Bay Area 5 years ago, we were determined that our 3
year-old continue to learn French.
This was important to us because we wanted him to be able to
communicate effortlessly with family and friends, to be sufficiently
competent in French to attend school in Montreal should we return,
and to be in a position to appreciate his cultural heritage.
The Languages Institute has helped us enormously in
this regard. Our
son’s weekly French lessons have provided him with the fluency to
communicate with French-speaking family members and friends with
class and homework, he is mastering French grammar, putting him on
par with students attending school in Montreal.
Further, he enjoys the same books that my husband read as a
child. As an added
bonus, his teacher at the Languages Institute engages and
challenges him – forcing him to analyze texts, assimilate ideas,
and express opinions – to think !
We are very grateful.”
